During 2020-2022, AAST welcomed three new affiliate faculty into the program! We look forward to their contributions and collaborations.

 

QUYNH NGUYEN
Associate Professor, Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Quynh Nguyen, PhD, MSPH, is an assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. Dr. Nguyen is a social epidemiologist focusing on contextual and economic factors as they relate to health. She leverages technology and big data sources to investigate and address health disparities.

 

NEEL AHUJA
Visiting Professor, The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Visiting Professor, American Studies

Neel Ahuja is Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland with appointments in the American Studies Department and the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, where he is Interim Graduate Director. Neel teaches a variety of courses in critical race and ethnic studies, feminist science studies, disability studies, and environmental humanities. His research explores the relationship of the body to the geopolitical, environmental, and public health contexts of colonial governance, warfare, and security. Neel is the author of two books, Bioinsecurities: Disease Interventions, Empire, and the Government of Species (2016) and Planetary Specters: Race, Migration, and Climate Change in the Twenty-First Century (2021).

 

LINDA ZOU
Assistant Professor, Psychology

Linda Zou is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2019. Dr. Zou’s research focuses on understanding intergroup relations, particularly among racial and ethnic groups. Her recent work investigates how racial and ethnic minority groups’ perceived fit with the American national identity shapes their experiences with stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination, as well as how majority group members react to increasing immigration and racial and ethnic diversity.
