About Fresh Pages

Fresh Pages is an online literary journal published by the Asian American Studies Program at University of Maryland-College Park. It provides an opportunity for undergraduate students at University of Maryland to publish creative writing as well as showcase their visual art, exploring aspects of Asian American identities and experiences. Fresh Pages was born out of the desire to craft a literary space for students to tell their unique Asian American stories and to support untapped creative minds. It aims to create a venue for their work to reach the campus community and beyond.

Submissions

We invite submissions for our fourth issue! All current University of Maryland undergraduate students and Spring 2026 graduates are welcome to submit creative writing and visual art that engage with these themes.

Submit by November 13, 2026, for best consideration.

Guidelines

Poetry
Submit up to three poems in a single file (.doc, .docx, or .pdf).

Prose: Fiction and Creative Nonfiction
Submit a work of fiction or creative nonfiction of up to 3,000 words as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file.

Visual Art
Submit up to three original works of visual art. For paintings, drawings, and sketches, send clear, high-resolution scans or photographs. Attach each artwork as a separate JPG or PNG file. Use the artwork’s title as the filename, and include each work’s title and medium (for example, watercolor on paper) in the body of your email. Do not add identifying watermarks. If your artwork includes a visible signature, please provide an unsigned copy for review when possible. If your work is accepted, we may request a higher-resolution image for publication.

How to Submit

Email your submission as an attachment to aast-journal@umd.edu, using the subject line “Fresh Pages Submission – [Poetry, Fiction, or Visual Art].”

Include your name, major, preferred email address, and University ID in the body of your email. Recent graduates should include their graduation year in place of a University ID.

To support anonymous review, keep your name and other identifying information out of the submitted files and filenames.
