Asian American youth are often viewed through the “model minority” stereotype, which can obscure the mental health challenges many face. In reality, Asian American adolescents experience significant concerns related to mental health. Since 2016, suicide has been the leading cause of death among Asian American adolescents ages 15–24.
Attend to learn more about Dr. Wang's (Professor, School Psychology - College of Education) research and explore the risk and protective factors that influence Asian American youth and their families. Participants will learn about the unique cultural, family, and systemic experiences that shape mental health and will discuss practical strategies for supporting Asian American youth and their parents.
Students who want to register for independent study to gain research experience and promote Asian American youth mental health are encouraged to attend!
