This event features a discussion between Professor Hoda Mahmoudi and Professor Janelle Wong on the recent anti-Asian violence. The discussion will focus on the historical context and contemporary connections of the recent attacks.

Join MICA and the Asian American Studies Program in welcoming our keynote speaker to open Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Julia Rhee is the current Interim Director of the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA). Her talk will be followed by a moderated Q&A session. Open to all.
Eva Woolridge (she/her) is a biracial Black and Chinese-American photographer residing in Brooklyn, New York. Her photo series’ explore the sexual, spiritual, and emotional nature of femininity. In her work she transcends surface-level labels of people of color by conveying strength, perseverance, vulnerability and vitality using strong lighting and composition.

The Asian American Studies Program is proud to launch its new Coffee Talk Series featuring AAST faculty in which students can get to know professors in a pressure-free, relaxed setting.
Japanese Latin Americans (JLA) just won a major victory at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and are seeking redress for World War II-era injustices. African Americans and the diverse Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement made major advances last year in their efforts to redress over 400 years of injustices. How can these groups and others work together to achieve their goals?

What challenges and possibilities must we acknowledge and confront as Asian Americans in our work for racial justice? When and where do we enter this conversation, participate in this resistance, take up space on the streets, amplify our demands, and uplift our brothers and sisters in thoughtful and impactful ways?
Where will Asian American voter turnout make the most impact this year? How do Asian Americans feel about the candidates? Join Christine Chen, Executive Director of APIAVote, in conversation with Prof. Janelle Wong for a webinar on Asian Americans and the 2020 Presidential Election. They will discuss new survey data on Asian American presidential vote choice, issue priorities, and attitudes toward race, immigration, affirmative action and other important topics.
