AAST Announces Employment Updates

AAST's website has an Employment page, which is being updated regularly to help students find jobs in the D.C. area and nationwide. Potential employers from government, corporations, and non-profit groups are encouraged to send employment information that would be of interest to the University of Maryland's Asian American students, and students are urged to check this page and the Scholarships page.

AAST Announces 2010-11 Scholarships

On behalf of the AAST Scholarship Committee and the Director of Asian American Studies Program, Dr. Larry Shinagawa, we are proud to offer six undergraduate scholarships of up to $1000 each for the 2010-11 academic year in honor of Asian Americans who exemplify the spirit of service to our nation. If you would like to apply for these scholarships or know of anyone who may be interested, please visit the scholarships page. The Asian American Studies Program (AAST) offers both an undergraduate certificate and undergraduate minor for students who wish to specialize in Asian American Studies alongside their major degree pursuits, whether in business, the sciences, or the liberal arts. more

Featured Faculty

Professor Lisa R. Mar, who teaches both in AAST and the History Department, teaches about Asian Americans and immigrants. Her research interests are in immigration, politics, law, and culture.

In 2010, Oxford University Press will publish Dr. Mar's book, Brokering Belonging: Chinese in the Exclusion Era, 1885-1945. Dr. Mar has published articles relating to transnational Chinese migration history, domestic violence in immigrant contexts, comparative U.S.-Canadian history, and immigrant family life. more
