Welcome to “East of California”
A Caucus of the Association for Asian American Studies

East of California is an Asian American Studies network in higher education. The institutions represented among the network's members are among 64 institutions in higher education dedicated to the promotion of Asian American Studies. The group was formed in the fall of 1991 on the campus of Cornell University, where representatives from twenty-three colleges and universities resolved to establish the network. Its purposes are:
  • to institutionalize Asian American Studies;
  • to develop regional-specific research and publications, and;
  • to provide mutual support to individuals and programs.
The network is a caucus within the Association for Asian American Studies, the national professional organization for the field. It meets twice annually, in the fall at the network conference held at a member campus and in the spring at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian American Studies. The network is open to interested students,faculty, and staff, and encourages the involvement of allied community institutions like museums and service organizations.
